Words of Wisdom (Psalms 49:3)
Reflection:
What spills out from our mouth? Words of destruction or Words of Life? We speak words of life when we are filled with Gods word. Unfolding of Gods word gives light, It gives understanding to the simple ( Psalms 119:130). Spending time in the word of God and meditating on it gives us Wisdom and understanding.
Personal Story:
As we were travelling, Jake was mumbling something to himself. When I went near, I heard him uttering a Tamil song which he had heard through the music being played in the bus. He didn’t understand the meaning of the words which were vulgar but he found it fancy and started uttering it. It made me realise how easily we get carried away by the ways of the world with or even without us knowing. Many times in our life we absorb from the surroundings and reflect the surroundings.
Application:
We are all created in the image of God but the question is are we reflecting the same in our life? Let us be careful with the words we speak. It all comes to one question – Where do we spend most of our time in this world? If we spend more time on the ways of the world, the words we speak no matter how nicely it sounds it becomes empty words. Only the word of God can build us. Through us speaking the Word of God, it builds the people around us.
Call to devotion:
Psalms 1 tells us that knowing and meditating on God’s words are the are the first steps towards applying it to your everyday life. The more we delight in God’s presence, the more fruitful we are because of the wisdom he imparts to us through His word. On the other hand the more we allow those who ridicule God to affect our thoughts and attitudes, the more we separate ourselves from the source of nourishment.
