- Wisdom from Solomon (1 Kings 4:29-34)
Reflection :
Options are plenty but the choice we must make in life is limited. Every choice that we make in our life breaks us or builds us. When God asked Solomon what he wanted, His reply that he was only a little child who didn’t know how to carry his duties and asked for a discerning heart to govern and do his duties properly. Here is a king who humbles himself before the Lord by comparing himself to a little child and his thirst to do things right in the duties assigned to him as a king. What is it that we are choosing today in our life and asking God?
Personal Story:
My son came running to me to share that he had a conversation with his friend in school and it resulted in him giving out his important textbook for a meagre eraser. I was taken back on hearing this. Many times in our life when given an opportunity to ask with our Lord God, instead of asking for Wisdom to walk in Gods given path and doing his purpose we ask for temporary things and leave out the important. This makes us fumble when discharging our duties because of the lack of wisdom.
Application :
Every decision we make is important and we are accountable to it. Are we asking the right things to our Lord God. It is pointless to buy a car if we don’t know how to drive it. We are driven by what we see in the world that we want to have everything, but the question is do we have the know how to utilise it properly. Today let us approach God to give us Wisdom so that we understand what God wants from us, how does he want us to do and why he wants us to do it. Let us live a life of Wisdom to achieve a Purpose driven life through our Lord God.
Call to devotion:
1 Kings 4:10-14, God was very pleased with Solomon that he had asked for Wisdom over anything else he could have asked.
God promises Solomon that he will give a wise and discerning heart to carry out his responsibilities. But it didn’t stop there, God gave Solomon Wealth and Honor more than any king on the earth. Settling our sight on riches, will not satisfy us as we tend to crave for more riches.
When we put God first and ask for his Wisdom to do his work first, he satisfies our deepest needs.
