Claiming to be wise  (Romans 1:21-22)

Reflection:

Idolatry starts when we tend to reject what we know about God, instead of looking towards the creator we tend to put ourselves in the centre of the universe and act all knowing. This results in setting up  our own idols which depicts our selfish interests.

Personal Story:

Jon Steingard, former lead singer of the Christian rock band Hawk Nelson announced about his decision to not believe in God because of the things that were happening in this world. Sometimes we try to understand the things in the world with our finite minds and tend to be wise in our understanding and drawing to our own conclusions. Our beliefs and conclusions tend to be based on what we acquire from this world and we end up becoming wise in our own eyes.

Practical Application :

With advancement in Science and Technology, we sometimes question the very existence of God. Today we are called to walk in faith and not by sight. In Proverbs 3:5-6, the verse tells us to Trust in the Lord with all our heart and not to lean on our own understanding. Let us learn to Trust in the Lord in everything and acknowledge God in all our ways.

Call to devotion:

In the book of Jonah, we see how Jonah gets angry with God due to HIS compassion on the people of Nineveh when they repent. Instead of questioning God based on our understanding and emotions, let us embrace God for who HE is and worship him with all our hearts, mind and Soul.
