In our journey of faith, integrity is a cornerstone. Deception can appear as a shortcut but it comes with costs that we may not foresee.
In Acts of Apostle 5: , 1 till 11, we encounter the story of Ananias and Sapphira, a warning about the peril of deceit within the community of believers.
Understanding the Cost of Deception
Ananias and Sapphira tried to portray themselves as generous without fully living it out. They sold a piece of property and deceptively held back part of the proceeds while misrepresenting their donation to the apostles.
The Consequence
When confronted about their deceit, both Ananias and Sapphira fell dead. While this may seem harsh, it serves as a lesson: God looks not just at our actions but at our hearts. The cost of their deception was immediate. This importance of honesty within our faith communities.
Encouragement for Living with Integrity
Living truthfully aligns us with God’s purpose. Proverbs chapter 12 verse 22 states, “The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy.” By choosing honesty, we honor God and build trust among others.
Several years ago, I was tempted to slightly adding my achievements on a resume. I hoped this would open doors. However, I was reminded of the importance of integrity. I submitted my true qualifications and, to my joy, was offered a role that perfectly suited my actual skills. This taught me that God blesses transparency and honesty.
1. Examine Your Heart: Regularly, take time to assess your actions and intentions. Ask God for the courage to remain honest in all situations.
2. Accountability: Surround yourself with trustworthy friends who will lovingly hold you accountable.
3. Transparency in Conflicts: Whether in family disputes or workplace disagreements, be open and truthful. Misrepresentations only multiply the problem.
Let’s commit ourselves today to pursuing truth. By standing firm in honesty, we pave the way for God’s blessings and true relationships.
