Building Bridges
We witness conflicts among nations, communities, and relationships. However, as Christians, we are called to be bridge-builders, peacemakers, and ministers of reconciliation.
2 Corinthians 5:18-21 highlights our mission as God’s ambassadors, carrying the message of reconciliation. It reveals how God, through Christ, has made it possible for the world to be reconciled to Him and introduces us to the ministry we are given to actively pursue this reconciliation.
The Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the Corinthian church during a time when misunderstandings and divisions existed not only within the church but also between Paul and some members of the congregation.
Paul aimed to defend his ministry and encourage the Corinthians to embrace the message of reconciliation wholeheartedly.
Paul begins by saying that all things are from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Christ. This reconciliation is the removal of the enmity caused by sin, achieved through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross.
Paul emphasizes that believers are not only reconciled but also entrusted with the ministry of reconciliation, making us ambassadors for Christ. God makes His appeal through us, urging the world to be reconciled to Him.
Jesus, who was sinless, was made to bear our sins so that we might become the righteousness of God. His sacrifice enables reconciliation between God and humanity. It highlights the shift from alienation to friendship with God, a transformation made possible by Jesus.
We are called to live out and proclaim this message, becoming agents of God’s peace in a fractured world. We are tasked with breaking down barriers, fostering understanding, and extending God’s grace to others.
Whether it’s in our personal relationships, communities, or on a global scale, our ministry is to bring the gospel of peace, influencing the world with Christ’s love and unity. We are to build bridges where others may seek to create walls. Let us commit anew to being bridge-builders, guided by the Spirit, reflecting God’s heart to a divided world.
